August Retreat

On August 21st, the Walnut Creek Writers Guild will hold one of its semi-yearly retreats using ZOOM. One Guild member, Rhoda Olkin has prepared a 1-hour session on developing a fully realized character.

Based on George Saunders new book, A Swim in a Pond in the Rain, which is basically a condensed version of one of his writing classes, WCWG member Vesta Clare will introduce three activities:

  1. Creating a list of events that show causality. It can be from a story you bring or your own created list.
  2. Start with a 600 word text and edit it. Saunders suggests 3 rounds.
  3. Write a 200 word story using only 50 different vocabulary words.

In between writing sessions there will be a Writers’ Café where we will share lunch and talk about…what else? Writing!!!
